ORCHESTRA CONDUCTING COURSE FOR CHOIRMASTERS
This course is intended for experienced choirmasters who would like to work with an orchestra.
It is imperative to learn the scores before taking part in the course.

Peter BROADBENT is one of Britain’s leading choral conductors, known for his awareness of style, breadth of experience and commitment to contemporary music. In 1988, he formed the Joyful Company of Singers, which rapidly established itself as one of Europe’s leading chamber choirs, winning an impressive list of National and International Competitions. Performances in the UK have included most of the major music festivals, including several “Proms” appearances, and they have given concerts throughout Europe and the USA. The JCS has recorded CDs for Chandos, ASV, EMI Classics, Naxos and Warner Classics, as well as recording TV and film soundtracks. Broadbent enjoys a versatile career with an extensive repertoire ranging from Baroque Music performed on period instruments, to contemporary music, including many first performances. In the UK he has conducted the London Mozart Players, Divertimenti Chamber Orchestra, the English Chamber Orchestra, the City of London Sinfonia, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Southern Sinfonia and the BBC Singers, broadcasting frequently on BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM. Other engagements have included concerts with the Debrecen Philharmonic Orchestra and Kodály Chorus in Hungary, a broadcast concert with the National Chamber Choir in Dublin, an atelier at Europa Cantat XV in Barcelona in 2003, and a concert tour with the World Youth Choir in July 2006 in Italy, Switzerland, France Belgium and Germany.Peter Broadbent adjudicates at International Choral Competitions all over Europe and in the UK, and gives seminars and masterclasses in the UK, Europe, South Africa, the USA and Canada. He is director of Choral Conducting Courses for the Association of British Choral Directors, having instigated and designed the curriculum for the courses. He was recently presented with the “Pro Cultura Hungarica” Prize by the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Hungary for his outstanding achievement in promoting Hungarian Music.

Volker HEMPFLING born in the Saarland, Germany, in 1944, studied in Herford and Cologne (church music, organ, orchestral conducting, singing). From 1972 to 1997 he was organist and church music director (KMD) and conductor of the Domkantorei Altenberg as weIl as director of the ,,Sacred Music” series at Altenberg cathedral. In 1968 Hempfling founded the world famous Kölner Kantorei, specializing in a cappella music of the Romantic and modern periods. With both choirs he has given performances in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Hungary, Rumania, Russia, Italy, Poland, Sweden, USA and Israel. In 1983 he became director of Cologne's Gürzenich-Chor. In 1984-85 Hempfling was recipient of a Deutscher Musikrat fellowship for work with Sawallisch and Penderecki. In addition to guest conducting appearances in Germany and elsewhere (e.g. Gürzenich Orchestra cologne, radio-orchestra pilsen, orchestras in poland and hungary and several times at the festival Europa Cantat), he acts as a lecturer in conducting and vocal training courses throughout the world. His activities as a jury member at national and international competitions have taken him to Regensburg, Marktoberdorf, Graz, Linz, Cork, Maribor, Tours, Legnica, Busan, Preveza, Tolosa, Budapest and Vilnius. He has been head of the jury of three editions of the Marktoberdorf Chamber Choir Competition. In 1985 he became professor for choral conducting at the University of music Saarbücken. In 1993 he changed to the the Robert Schumann-Hochschule in Düsseldorf, where he has been professor of choral conducting, director of the Protestant Church Music division and conductor of the chamber choir until 2004. In June 2004 he conducted the World Youth Chamber Choir in framework of the festivities of 60 years D-day in Normandy/France. In 2006 he edited "Lore-Ley", the first edition of a German Folksong Book for mixed choirs, in 2009 "Lore-Ley" was published also for female choirs. At the famous Israeli festivals Zimriya 2007 and 2010 he led ateliers with Puccinis Messa di Gloria and Mozarts Mass in C minor. He has been member of the Artistic Committee for the World Symposium on Choral Music, held in July 2008 in Copenhagen. In 2008 his Kölner Kantorei celebrated its 40th birthday. Since 2003 Hempfling is lecturer of the International Seminars for Choral Conducting in the Bavarian Music Academy following the International Chamber Choir Competitions Marktoberdorf.

Csaba KISS (HU)
Csaba KISS graduated at Nyíregyháza Teacher Training College and Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Budapest in the class of István Párkai and Éva Kollár . He began his teaching and conducting career in Miskolc, where he led the Forrás Chamber Choir between 1990-98, and achieved good results at several international choral competitions (e.g. Budapest, Riva del Garda, Litomyšl, Debrecen).
Since 1998 he has been living in Debrecen, teaching at the Music Department of Kölcsey Ferenc Teacher Training College of the Reformed Church. Of late years Csaba Kiss has conducted the Debrecen Kodály Chorus, the Bartók Béla Chamber Choir, the Ensemble „Canto Armonico”. He is the establishing conductor of Vox Antiqua Chamber Choir. He had concert tours in Italy, France, Norway, Switzerland and Slovakia. With the Canto Armonico and the Vox Antiqua has recorded 4 CD-s and performed in the programme of Hungarian Television (M1), Hungarian Radio (Bartók Rádió), the Mezzo Classic/Jazz Tv and Radio Suisse Romande 1. In 2007 he gave seminar for conductors and choir members in Japan. His prizes: Conductor Prize - 1994, Litomyšl (CZ); 1996, Debrecen (H); 2002, Debrecen (H); 2008, Trnava (SK);Gulyás György Prize, 2007; Special Prize, Neuchâtel (CH).
